Exploring the Genre of Action
Action films usually have intense physical scenes with rapid pacing. Most action films feature rescues, fights and escapes. Most action films climax is a fight scene with the protagonist and antagonist. The themes of most action films are an injustice trying to be resolved. Action movies usually have a strong man as the protagonist, pretty female and a funny side character. The protagonist has a moral code, while the antagonist has no morals. In action films there is high stakes. This means that there is something on the line like people's lives. There is a lot of tracking shots and series of medium, long, and close shots because of all the fight scenes. The film progresses mostly through visuals instead of dialogue. Action Films have big name people to attract more of an audience. Some examples are Bruce Willis, Jackie Chan, Tom Cruise, and Dwayne Johnson.
Target Audience
Action films appeal to males within the ages of 20-40 and are in the lower or middle class.
The Dark Night is a superhero movie directed by Christopher Nolan in 2008. This film is the perfect example of Action since it is fast paced with many fight scenes. The film has high stakes the whole city is on the line. There is an antagonist with no morals and a protagonist with a moral code.
Mission Impossible is another example of an Action film. This film stars Tom Cruise one of the people stated above to be famous for action movies. Mission Impossible is a film about a young spy fighting off people with many intense stunts like jumping off buildings. It is a face pace film with many different locations.
